Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, Texas raised more than $1 million at its 12th annual Building Hope Gala, held Saturday, May 3, marking the most successful fundraising event in the organization’s history.

The gala was co-chaired by Tina Rivera, owner of arc electric + lighting, and Kim Soderberg REALTOR® with Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate – Gary Greene, supported by a dedicated committee and staff.

Major sponsors included:

  • Presenting Sponsors: LGI Homes and Laura and David Piccione
  • Winner’s Circle Sponsors: Larry and Connie Abston; Tricia and Jack Futcher; Mark and Laurie Lashier; Michael and Allison Wortley
  • Superfecta Sponsor: Kathleen and Dave Stover
  • Step and Repeat Underwriter: Reliability Controls

With an elevated Kentucky Derby theme and the rallying slogan “All Bets on YOU,” the gala welcomed about 600 guests for an unforgettable night of celebration and purpose. Guests placed their bets on a night of fun—enjoying the silent and live auctions, wine and bourbon pulls, jewelry raffle, squares game, and of course, raising their paddles high during the ever-popular “Build A Home” moment—all while sipping mint juleps in true Derby fashion.

The funds raised will support Habitat MCTX’s efforts to build safe, affordable homes and expand initiatives such as critical home repairs, Veterans Build, and Aging in Place across Montgomery County. On average, it costs the organization $120,000 to build a home.

“This milestone is more than a number—it’s a sign of momentum, of what’s possible when a community rallies together,” said Vicki Johnson, Executive Director of Habitat MCTX. “We’re deeply thankful to everyone who made this night such a success. With this support, we can continue expanding our reach and building brighter futures.”

Wayne and Deborah Austin were this year’s honorees, recognized for their long-standing commitment to Habitat MCTX. Since 2008, the Austins have served in numerous volunteer leadership roles. Wayne is a past Board President and current member of the Advisory Council and the Capital Campaign Committee, while Deborah chairs the Family Support Committee and serves on the Architectural Review Committee in Cedar Creek, an all-Habitat neighborhood.

One of the evening’s most powerful moments came when Habitat homeowner Jeanette shared her journey to homeownership. She now lives in Cedar Creek, which is nearing completion. Habitat MCTX will begin building homes in its next neighborhood, Marble Creek, in Magnolia in 2026.

The evening concluded with music and dancing, closing out a night filled with generosity, community, and hope for the future.
