16th Annual Memorial Day Service pays tribute to Heroes and Freedom at Forest Park The Woodlands
On Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 2024, Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home and Cemetery hosted their 16th annual Memorial Day service, a tribute to Heroes & Freedom, in honor and celebration of those who have proudly served our country. The event included a service of remembrance, live patriotic music, guest speaker Marine Corps Veteran Chris Sadler of Honor Cafe, and a complimentary lunch provided by Honor Cafe.

The Memorial Day Service was dedicated to the brave men and women of the United States Armed Services and public servants. The service included the Presentation of Colors by The Woodlands Fire Department, Pledge of Allegiance by Ryan Hairell, Funeral Director, live music including “Star Spangled Banner and “God Bless America” by Felix Lyons and Kelley Peters, and a singing and ukulele performance of “Amazing Grace” by Maggie Blattel. Melissa Wright, Funeral Home Manager, welcomed attendees and shared opening remarks, Shane Baker, and Funeral Director, led the opening prayer and shared the recognition of the Armed Services of the United States. A representative from VFW Auxiliary 12024 read “In Flander’s Fields”, and guest speaker Chris Sadler of Honor Cafe shared his thoughts from a veteran’s point of view on Memorial Day. The service concluded with the Parade of Wreaths, “Taps” by Rene Gonzales, and a closing prayer.
Prior to the event, volunteers from American Heritage Girls and Boy Scouts of America Troops 777, Girls Troop 1777, Cub Scout Pack 777, and Venturing Crew 112 assisted with placing individual markers on the gravesites of Veterans to indicate the location for wreath laying.
