City Place introduces inaugural ‘School of Fly’ Outdoor Experience featuring ORVIS
Continuing its commitment to outdoor recreation and nature-based programming, North Houston’s City Place will debut the inaugural City Place School of Fly, featuring ORVIS, on Saturday, September 12, 2026. The complimentary event invites guests to discover the fundamentals of fly fishing while experiencing the community’s 150-acre Nature Preserve, one of the area’s most unique outdoor destinations.
Produced by City Place, the one-day experience will feature expert instruction from ORVIS, with instructors from the brand’s The Woodlands store leading a series of fly-casting clinics and fly-tying workshops throughout the day. There is no cost to attend or participate, although advance registration is required for the instructional clinics due to limited capacity.
Designed for participants of all experience levels, City Place School of Fly introduces guests to one of America’s most enduring outdoor traditions while encouraging them to explore the Nature Preserve’s wooded trails, scenic waterways, and direct connection to the Spring Creek Greenway.

Throughout the day, ORVIS instructors will lead concurrent one-hour casting clinics and fly-tying workshops, providing hands-on instruction for both first-time anglers and seasoned outdoor enthusiasts. All equipment will be provided, allowing guests to simply arrive and enjoy the experience. Participants in each clinic will also have opportunities to win premium ORVIS fly-fishing gear.
While clinic participation is limited, everyone is invited to experience the event. Visitors are welcome throughout the day to watch expert demonstrations, meet ORVIS instructors, and enjoy nature-inspired children’s activities.
Guests are also encouraged to make a day of it by exploring the surrounding Nature Preserve, which connects directly to the Spring Creek Greenway, one of the nation’s longest connected urban forested trail systems.
