Canopy hosts ‘Bloom for Someone You Love’ to raise awareness about Ovarian Cancer
On Wednesday, September 2, Canopy Cancer Survivorship Center hosted the “Bloom for Someone You Love” event to raise awareness about ovarian cancer.
September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Runsi Sen, Founder, President & CEO of Ovarcome, shared with guests about the B.E.A.C.H. symptoms of ovarian cancer and why recognizing the signs matter. Ovarcome is an ovarian cancer foundation with a mission to raise global awareness, to fund research in search of a cure, and to provide financial, psycho-social and informational support to Ovarcomers.
Ovarcome shares that the B.E.A.C.H. Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer are:
- B – Bloating – A persistently bloated stomach is one of the key symptoms of ovarian cancer. Talk to you doctor before you dismiss the bloating as being a “natural body change.”
- E – Early Satiety or feeling full quickly – If you have trouble eating or feeling full quickly on a consistent basis, pay attention. Appetite changes may be symptoms of ovarian cancer.
- A – Abdominal and/or Pelvic Pain – Pay attention if you experience persistent pressure, and/or abdominal and pelvic pain as it may be a sign of ovarian cancer. You may also experience lower back pain.
- C – Changes in Bowel & Bladder Habits – Frequent urge to urinate and/or changes in bowel movements can be symptoms of ovarian cancer. Persistent indigestion and nausea may also be present. Pay attention.
- H – Heightened Fatigue – Persistent fatigue may be a sign of ovarian cancer, especially when accompanied with other listed symptoms. If constant fatigue is interfering with your work/leisure, it may be more than stress.
Each attendee also had the opportunity to build a complimentary small bouquet from the Bloom Bar. Guests were encouraged to share the bouquet, along with the symptoms of ovarian cancer, with a family member, friend, a loved one, or themselves. Every flower chosen helped to spread awareness and hope.
The Bloom Bar was generously sponsored by Leadership Montgomery County and Love Like Will. The event was also supported by Memorial Hermann In the Pink of Health and Ovarcome.
Every year, Love Like Will shares a random act of kindness in memory of sweet baby Will who passed away on September 11, 2013 from myocarditis, a disease marked by inflammation and damage to heart muscle. In such a short time on earth, this beautiful little boy spread happiness and love to every person he met. The family encourages everyone to love like Will and honor his memory on September 11 by sharing an act of kindness with others. Please help his beautiful spirit of kindness live on. How will you Love Like Will?
