Cooper Student-Athletes Host Camp for Children in Foster Care
THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Head Football Coach at The John Cooper School, Erik DeHaven, says his mission is to build champions on and off the field.
“Being a good athlete begins with being a good human and a good student. Our students are well-rounded and perform with the highest caliber on and off the field. We are always looking for ways to build our students’ confidence, to grow their involvement, and expand their leadership opportunities,” said Coach DeHaven.
The John Cooper Sideline Club and Athletics Department partnered with The Champion Project, a non-profit located in The Woodlands, Texas, dedicated to giving a voice to teens in foster care.
“We were blown away by the way the young men on this team motivated and supported the youth who came. They went above and beyond to make each youth feel special and we give them a huge shout-out for all they did,” said Becca Howard, Program Director for The Champion Project.
Each of the camp counselors are student football players at The John Cooper School. They were empowered to lead, design, and run the camp. Each student-athlete was partnered with a buddy in the Champion Project program to have lunch, spend quality time together, and build friendships.
“We are so proud and honored to see our boys participating and leading such a meaningful event. We hope this experience creates lasting positive memories for all the kids involved,” said Becky Ellsworth, Sideline Club Leadership Council Chair.
The John Cooper School is a PK-12 independent, college preparatory day school that has been serving The Woodlands and greater Houston area since 1988.
