City Place welcomes Fall with Community Car Show, Fly Fishing, and Roaming Gnomes Installation

North Houston business and leisure destination City Place is saying sayonara to summer and kicking off the fall season with a sensational September programming lineup full of outdoorsy family fun, cool cars, colorful fitness opportunities, and several larger-than-life visitors of the gnomish persuasion.

On Saturday, Sept. 5, automotive enthusiasts and gearhead families alike can look forward to the return of the City Place Community Car Show featuring a showcase of vintage, luxury, and exotic vehicles, including a presentation of Art Cars.

In partnership with City Place, the fly-fishing aficionados ORVIS host their first hands-on School of Fly workshop at the Nature Preserve on Saturday, Sept. 12, offering expert-led casting clinics and fly-tying demonstrations complete with provided gear and prize giveaways. Guests looking to turn the event into a getaway can take advantage of special overnight offers, including a discounted rate at the Houston City Place Marriott when using promotional code 11P, as well as a Fly Fishing Experience package at the Courtyard Houston City Place featuring a curated fly-fishing essentials kit complete with snacks and branded merch.

Adding to the seasonal enjoyment, the Color Vibe 5K Run arrives on Saturday, September 19 with a one-of-a-kind fitness and festival experience, followed by a Pix on The Plaza evening outdoor screening of Disney’s magical family film “Encanto”.

Starting Saturday, Sept. 26, Roaming Gnomes will make its highly anticipated City Place debut, bringing eight giant, brilliantly illuminated gnomes to the community’s mixed-use urban core. Created by the internationally acclaimed design studio Amigo & Amigo, Roaming Gnomes will be on display through Sunday, November 8.

School of Fly – Fly-Fishing Workshop with ORVIS

Saturday, Sept. 12 | 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Embark on a new adventure with the first-ever School of Fly at the City Place Nature Preserve. Led by expert instructors from ORVIS, this hands-on fly-fishing workshop will provide guests with an in-depth look into the art and techniques of fly fishing and fly-tying in a friendly, welcoming environment. All gear will be supplied, and each session offers participants a chance to win their own fly-fishing equipment. Whether you’re a beginner or seeking to refine your skills, join us for a day of fishing, learning, and outdoor fun at City Place. Color Vibe 5K

Saturday, Sept. 19 | 7 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Get ready to add more color to your fall. Color Vibe 5K is an untimed, family-friendly fun run that welcomes participants of all ages and fitness levels to run, walk, dance, and celebrate at vibrant color stations. The morning will be filled with music, color, and energy, making it an ideal outing for families, friends, coworkers, and anyone seeking a fun way to stay active. Join us at City Place for one of Houston’s most colorful seasonal events.

Pix on The Plaza: Encanto (2021)

Saturday, Sept. 19 | 8 p.m.

In a magical home hidden in the mountains of Colombia, every member of the extraordinary Madrigal family is blessed with a unique power, except for young Mirabel. When the magic surrounding their home begins to fade and cracks threaten their bond, Mirabel discovers that she might be her family’s last hope to save their wonder.

Roaming Gnomes

Saturday, Sept. 26 through Sunday, Nov. 8 

Featuring eight giant, illuminated, character-driven inflatable gnomes scattered across the community’s mixed-use urban core, this interactive exhibition transforms the district into an open-air gallery that offers playful daytime surprises and vibrant nighttime light displays. Having previously appeared at major festivals nationwide, the Texas debut invites visitors of all ages to explore, connect, and discover each oversized figure throughout the waterfront plaza and surrounding pathways.
