Conroe ISD releases statement: ‘Conroe ISD acted swiftly and continues to cooperate in Investigation’
Conroe ISD shared the following press release and statement on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, titled, “Conroe ISD Acted Swiftly and Continues to Cooperate in Investigation.”
Conroe ISD acted immediately upon learning of the allegations against then-employee Mr. Durning on April 27, 2026. That same day, the district removed him from campus, placed him on administrative leave, and reported the allegations to CPS and TEA/SBEC. The Conroe ISD Police Department immediately began investigating and notified the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office as required by the interpretation of the law at that time. Mr. Durning is no longer employed by Conroe ISD.
Conroe ISD Police detectives investigated the allegations, and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the case. After a thorough investigation of the allegations, no chargeable offense was found to have occurred. Following the Attorney General’s opinion which provided clarification on the intent of Senate Bill 571, the Conroe ISD Police Department submitted the entire case file to the District Attorney’s Office the next day. The case was promptly assigned to a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office detective and remains under review and investigation at this time.
The Conroe ISD Police Department has acted promptly and professionally and continues to cooperate with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney’s Office. Protecting students remains the number one priority of Conroe ISD and the Conroe ISD Police Department. We value our longstanding partnership with our fellow law enforcement agencies and the District Attorney’s Office.
As this matter is now under review by an outside law enforcement agency, the District will defer questions regarding the investigation to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
