Counter Drug Trafficking Operation targets South Montgomery County following Fatal Overdose

A multi-agency investigation led by the Montgomery County Narcotics Enforcement Team (MOCONET) has resulted in the arrest of four individuals following an operation targeting drug trafficking and sales in the South Montgomery County area.

The extensive investigation was initiated in response to a fatal overdose that occurred in South Montgomery County. MOCONET, worked in close cooperation with the Department of Public Safety (DPS), the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).

On Monday, September 22, 2025, a coordinated enforcement operation was conducted in the Tamina Community. Multiple search warrants were executed at various locations with the assistance of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, the Texas Department of Public Safety Special Operations Division, and the Walker County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team.

This operation led to the arrest of four individuals.

Otis Smith is charged with Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Calandra Tartt is charged with Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Berry King II is charged with Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance, and Tampering/Fabricating Physical Evidence with Intent to Impair, and Derrick Russell is charged with Possession of Marijuana.

Also seized in this operation were multiple narcotics and firearms including Fentanyl, various narcotics in pill form, crack cocaine, powder cocaine, various THC products, marijuana, and five firearms.
