CSO presents Dancing to a Different Tune with Guest Conductor Myles Nardinger
CONROE, TX – The Conroe Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Guest Conductor, Mr. Myles Nardinger, from the Moores School of Music, presents Dancing to a Different Tune, October 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Lake Creek High School in Montgomery.
Dancing to a Different Tune will pay tribute to a variety of dance genres with classical and contemporary melodies like Hungarian Dance No. 5 by Brahms, A Salute to Rodgers and Hammerstein, “Bacchanale” from Samson and Delilah by Saint-Saëns, “Montagues and Capulets” from Romeo and Juliet by Prokofiev, Waltz from Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky, a modern Beatles Medley and more.
Mr. Myles Nardinger is a conductor and pianist currently completing his doctorate in music at the University of Houston, where he has been the assistant conductor and general manager for the Moores School of Music Orchestras.
“I’m honored to be performing with the Conroe Symphony Orchestra and know that this concert offers something for every member of the family, remarked Nardinger. “As the theme implies, we’re keeping things lively with this next concert—to celebrate a desire to step out and enjoy live music, and dance, on one stage,” said Nardinger.
As a music director and a conductor, Nardinger’s past productions include La Traviata, La Cenerentola, Guys and Dolls, Gypsy, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, The Secret Garden, and Batboy: The Musical. As a collaborative artist, he has performed at The Finger Lakes Music Festival in New York and La Musica Lirica opera festival in Italy as well as accompanied for Indianapolis Opera, Ball State University Opera Theatre, Butler University Opera, and the Virginia City Players in Montana. In 2016, Mr. Nardinger assisted in editing the opera of Kurt Vonnegut’s Happy Birthday Wanda June by Richard Auldon Clark and acted as principal coach for the production of its world premiere with Indianapolis Opera.
The concert will also celebrate the life of its visionary founder and music lover, Mary Curtis Taylor, who passed away recently. Of her desire to organize the symphony Taylor said, “I had been a symphony musician all my life, and I thought we needed to give this to the community. Conroe is a great city, with country music and barbecue, but I thought we needed another avenue for music here – the symphony.“ Her wish was to one day see the symphony move into its own performance hall.
“Mary Curtis Taylor was a total visionary in every sense of the word,” Annette Spikes, president of the Greater Conroe Arts Alliance, said. “She was an inspired leader with an eye on the future and her presence will be forever missed by our arts community,” stressed Spikes.
Tickets for Dancing to a Different Tune are available online. Ticket prices are $20 for adults and $10 for children over the age of 10. Season tickets are also available online for $80, which includes tickets to each of the four paid show plus two additional guest tickets for the 2021-22. The October 9 concert will be performed at Lake Creek High School, 20639 FM 2854, Montgomery, Texas and starts promptly at 7:30 p.m.
The Conroe Symphony Orchestra is supported in part by funds from the City of Conroe and The Texas Commission on the Arts. The Conroe Symphony Orchestra is a member of the Greater Conroe Arts Alliance and the Texas Association of Symphony Orchestras.

The Conroe Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1997. Since its inception, the Symphony has continued under the baton of several fine musicians including Dr. Robert Zwick, Dr. Don Hutson, Dr. Jacob Sustaita and Ms. Anna-Maria Gkouni—the orchestra’s first female conductor, who recently resigned due to health reasons.
The 2021-22 season will be highlighted by a cadre of Guest Conductors which highlight the incredible talent of the Greater Houston-area’s symphony conductors. The October 9 concert will be conducted by Mr. Myles Nardinger, Moores School of Music. The February 2022 concert will be conducted by Darla McBryde, Assistant Director of Bands, and the Associate Director of the Bearkat Marching Band at Sam Houston University. The April 2022 concert will be conducted by Dr. Dan Dr. Kayoko Dan, Director of Orchestral Activities and Assistant Professor at Sam Houston State University.
The Conroe Symphony Orchestra was created to add to the cultural enrichment of the community, assuring a better quality of life for the Conroe area.
