From Home Repairs to Keys in Hand, May Marks a Month of Milestones for Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County
Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, Texas marked a month of remarkable milestones in May, celebrating community impact, revitalized neighborhoods and the joy of homeownership for local families.

From May 15–17, the organization hosted its Rock the Block event in Inverness Crossing, a neighborhood in Magnolia. Over the course of three days, 65 volunteers donated more than 230 hours of service to complete 16 critical home repair projects for neighbors in need. Volunteers and trades tackled a wide range of repairs, including roof work, ramp construction, home painting, debris removal, and more.

On May 31, Habitat MCTX celebrated a home dedication for Nohelia and Candida, a mother-daughter duo whose journey from Honduras to Texas began in 2020 with a shared dream of homeownership. Through a community connection, volunteers, and support from their Home Sponsor, Chevron Phillips Chemical, that dream became a reality. Their new four-bedroom home in the Cedar Creek neighborhood also includes Candida’s sons, Cristian and Alex. Nohelia is a recent nursing school graduate preparing for her board exams and residency, while Candida continues to work and study. Cristian is pursuing a software engineering degree at Sam Houston State University and is an accomplished musician, and Alex is finishing high school with interests in history, technology and karate. For this family, the new home offers stability, opportunity and a foundation for the future.

May also saw three partner families officially close on their homes in Cedar Creek, an all-Habitat neighborhood in Conroe. Sade began a new chapter with her children, Mia and Dae-Quwan, in a home built through determination and perseverance. Manuel and Esther are beginning a new life together as homeowners, building a future filled with promise. Jamie, a hardworking mother of two daughters, received the keys to a home where lasting memories will now be made. With only four homes left to be built in Cedar Creek, Habitat MCTX has already broken ground on its next exciting neighborhood, Marble Creek, in Magnolia.
“Behind every hour volunteered was a neighbor, a story, a reason to keep going,” said Vicki Johnson, Executive Director of Habitat MCTX. “Our programs are about preserving dignity, strengthening neighborhoods and walking alongside families who deserve safe, livable homes.”
Supporters are encouraged to join the Marble Creek capital campaign to help build more homes and transform more lives in the community. To learn more or make a gift, visit habitatmctx.org/marble-creek.
From revitalized neighborhoods to the joy of keys in hand, May served as a powerful reminder of what’s possible when the community comes together with compassion and purpose. For more information about Habitat MCTX and how to get involved, visit habitatmctx.org.
