By  |

CONROE, TX – Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County (Habitat MCTX) is finishing their first new home build with an ADA compliant shower that will fit the needs of an elderly couple moving into their Cedar Creek community. FITNESS PROJECT and The John Cooper School partnered with Habitat MCTX to build their first new home and John Cooper’s 22nd home in the community, respectively.

FITNESS PROJECT began its new partnership with Habitat MCTX during the pandemic. Now almost two years into building the partnership, over $65K in organization contributions, and the completion of the first home build for such a wonderful family in need, Robert and Venissa, FITNESS PROJECT continues to expand the partnership with Habitat MCTX and committed to building another home next year.

Under the leadership of Bryan Murphy, CEO of FITNESS PROJECT, the organization continues to build a culture of health, engagement, and connection to help people transform their lives in and out of the gym.

“I believe there’s power in purpose, acting with an intentional focus on a desired outcome. Combining community causes with exercise offers people greater purpose than personal health alone; it offers fitness for the whole self—mind, body, and soul. The result? Fulfillment in ourselves, strength in our communities,” said Murphy.

Troy Wise, VP of Marketing, also added that because affordable housing is so difficult to find in our communities, programs like Habitat MCTX are more important than ever. “They really deserve the opportunity to make affordable mortgage payments instead of paying unaffordable rent. The family gains wealth and equity to help them succeed for generations to come,” Wise said.

“On behalf of FITNESS PROJECT, I am both proud and humbled to have been a part of this experience,” said Murphy. “The hands-on participation in the building this couple’s new home allowed us to play a role in helping make affordable housing a reality.”

“We rise by lifting others,” Wise concluded. “And we will continue to strive to put the unity in our communities and bring our members together for positive social impact.”

“We appreciate FITNESS PROJECT bringing their energy, commitment, and muscles to our construction site to help support our vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live,” said Vicki Johnson, Executive Director of Habitat MCTX.
