Houston Methodist Breast Care Center at The Woodlands celebrates 10 years of service
Houston Methodist Breast Care Center at The Woodlands is celebrating 10 years of service. Established to provide convenient access to high-quality breast care and early cancer detection, it has grown into a trusted health care resource for residents of The Woodlands, Montgomery County and beyond – including patients several hours away from the Houston metropolitan area. In a decade, the Breast Care Center at The Woodlands has served more than 200,000 patients.
Designed to offer a calm and supportive experience, the center has spent the past decade focused on what matters most: saving lives. Its impact is driven by a dedicated, hand-selected team committed to clinical excellence and compassionate patient advocacy – many of whom have been with the center since its opening.
“When the Breast Care Center at The Woodlands opened, our team came together from surrounding communities with a shared purpose: to create a place where women could find answers and receive one-on-one care,” said Ashley Carriage, day one staff member and breast ultrasound technologist at Houston Methodist Breast Care Center at The Woodlands. “A decade later, that commitment to personalized care continues to guide us as we grow.”
In addition to the dedicated staff, the center is also equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including:
- Digital mammography: Low-dose X-ray imaging specifically designed to detect early signs of breast cancer.
- 3D imaging services: Three-dimensional image of the breast that radiologists use to improve the detection of breast abnormalities.
- Breast ultrasound: Diagnostic imaging technique utilizing sound waves to produce images of the internal structures of the breast to evaluate abnormalities.
- Image-guided needle breast biopsies: Minimally invasive procedure where a needle is guided by imaging technology to obtain a breast tissue sample for diagnostic purposes.
- Breast MRI: Imaging method using magnetic fields and radio waves to visualize breast tissue for high-risk screenings and diagnostic evaluation.
- Pre-surgical localization: Technique to precisely mark the location of an abnormality in the breast before surgery to ensure accurate removal.

Today, the center is a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence and is accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.
“In 2016, I had the privilege of establishing and opening Houston Methodist Breast Care Center at The Woodlands from the ground up,” said Whitney Arriaga, director of oncology services at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital. “From day one, it was my priority to establish a culture of excellence, which continues to set us apart. This was our opportunity to truly bring the Houston Methodist footprint and experience to our community.”
