Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital Earns Another ‘A’ for Patient Safety in Fall 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

By  |

THE WOODLANDS, TX – Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital received an ‘A’ Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for fall 2021. This recognition marks the fifth time this premier health care facility has received a top score since the hospital opened in June 2017 — earning a straight ‘A’ since fall 2019.

“Receiving an ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group for the fifth consecutive time since Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital initially opened in 2017 is validation of our commitment to providing unparalleled safety and quality to every patient entrusted to our care,” said Debbie Sukin, CEO of Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital and regional senior vice president, Houston Methodist. “This achievement reflects the dedication of our physicians and staff as they work to ensure we continue to lead medicine by keeping patient safety at the forefront of all we do.”

The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization committed to driving quality, safety and transparency in the U.S. health care system, assigns A, B, C, D and F letter grades to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, injuries, accidents and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.

“An ‘A’ Safety Grade is a tremendous achievement, of which this community should be extremely proud,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I thank the leadership and workforce of Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital for its commitment to prioritizing patients and their safety, especially during these trying times.”
