Incident at Deretchin Elementary – Suspect in Custody
Today at 2:45 pm, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Deretchin Elementary, located at the 11000 block of Merit Oaks Drive, in response to a 911 call from an individual who made alarming threats, stating he would shoot up the school if law enforcement did not respond to the elementary school.
Deputies arrived promptly and encountered a 21-year-old male on school property who was actively self-harming and displaying weapons. Deputies utilized less-lethal measures to safely subdue the individual and take him into custody without further incident.
The suspect was found to be in possession of a knife and a realistic airsoft pistol. He was transported to a local hospital for a comprehensive mental health evaluation and will be charged with the 3rd degree felony of possessing a weapon where prohibited.
