“Living the Dream” in Honor of Martin Luther King Jr Day

By  |

The 29th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration in The Woodlands will take place on Monday, January 16, starting at 12 noon at The Woodlands United Methodist Church. All are invited to attend this free celebration. The longtime event was started by Impact Church of The Woodlands (formerly St. Paul Church) and is still hosted by them today.

The Chairperson who has been a guiding light for this event since its inception is Myrna Irons, an original Hometown Hero of The Woodlands.

The theme this year is “Living the Dream”. Pastor Rob Renfroe from The Woodlands United Methodist Church is the keynote speaker while Tom Abrahams, news anchor with KTRK-ABC Channel 13 Houston is the Master of Ceremonies.

The celebration includes music from both adult and children’s choirs; announcement of High School Senior Winners from the Essay Scholarship Contest and Elementary School Student Winners from the Poster Contest; and the Drum Major Award recipient. King regarded himself as a “drum major” for justice, peace and righteousness, stating that “we all have the drum major instinct.”

Irons believes in this worthwhile tribute. “The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration is a community-wide event celebrating the life of Dr. King who selflessly performed daily acts of service to make our communities and our world a better place.”

Sponsors for the King Celebration include The Woodlands Development Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Howard Hughes Corporation®, Lone Star College – Montgomery Woodforest National Bank.
