LSC–Montgomery Theatre Department delivers strong start with Twelve Angry Jurors performance
The Lone Star College–Montgomery Department of Theatre proudly kicked off its fall semester with a compelling performance of Twelve Angry Jurors, held October 2–4, 2025, in the Performing Arts Center’s Mainstage Theatre. A complimentary dress rehearsal was offered on October 1, welcoming faculty, staff, students, and community members to preview the show.
Adapted by Sherman L. Sergel and produced by special arrangement with Dramatic Publishing, Twelve Angry Jurors centers on the trial of a 19-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing his father. What appears to be an open-and-shut case quickly unravels as one juror challenges the others to reconsider the evidence. The play explores themes of justice, prejudice, and personal bias, culminating in a tense and thought-provoking verdict.
The cast featured talented LSC–Montgomery students, many of whom are returning performers with extensive experience in previous campus productions. Juror No. 3 was portrayed by Garret Smith, a seasoned actor recognized with the 2024 Tommy Tune Award for Outstanding Actor. Smith’s past roles include the Toy Salesman in The Sleeper, Caden in The Thanksgiving Play, and Mickey in Blood Brothers.
Juror No. 9 was portrayed by Sedric J. Willis, making his debut at LSC-M. Though new to this stage, Willis is a seasoned performer with over 40 area productions to his credit, including Driving Miss Daisy, No Time for Sergeants, and The Rainmaker. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Speech and Theatre from Lewis University and brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the role, complementing the ensemble’s collective talent and dedication.
The performance was a resounding success, led by Chase Waites, who has served as professor of theatre at LSC–M since 2006. His continued leadership reflects a deep commitment to cultivating artistic excellence on campus.
“This cast brought heart, discipline, and creativity to every rehearsal and performance,” said Waites. “It’s a privilege to work alongside such passionate individuals and witness their growth on and off the stage.
Special thanks go to those who helped bring this production to life: Amanda Waites, Michael Walsh, Dominique Pugh, Kerri Steen, Jordan LaCaille, and Student Activities. Their support and collaboration were instrumental in making Twelve Angry Jurors a memorable experience for all.
The Department of Theatre at LSC–M remains dedicated to fostering creativity and community engagement through the performing arts. With more productions on the horizon, audiences can expect a season filled with inspiring work that highlights the talent and dedication of our students and faculty.
Up next, the Theatre Department presents The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, running November 20–22, 2025. This must-see mainstage production is part of the fall lineup. More details are available at LoneStar.edu/drama-dept-montgomery.
