Hello Woodlands gave the opportunity to candidates running for The Woodlands Township Board of Directors to complete a written interview including the same four (4) questions. View candidate’s responses to our questions, if provided.
Each position has a two-year term, is an unpaid volunteer position, and is elected at-large by voters in The Woodlands Township in both Montgomery County and Harris County. The election is scheduled for November 4, 2025. Voters must be registered to vote for The Woodlands election.
THE WOODLANDS TOWNSHIP BOARD OF DIRECTORS – 2025 CANDIDATE
Maria Holmes is running for The Woodlands Township Board Position 6.

1. Why do you enjoy living (and working, if applicable) in The Woodlands?
Living in The Woodlands reflects the values and vision I hold dear: community, stewardship, and opportunity. As past President of The Woodlands Arts Council Board of Directors and a longtime resident and civic leader, I am deeply connected to our vibrant business and nonprofit culture, with a commitment to preserving natural beauty. The Woodlands is a rare blend of a unique master plan, urban sophistication, and environmental serenity, which aligns with my passion for sustainable growth and strategic governance.
I particularly enjoy The Woodlands’ collaborative spirit, which I experienced while serving on local boards, mentoring youth, and championing the arts. I love the walkable town center, thriving faith community, and engaged villages that make it a place where meaningful relationships thrive and public service is appreciated. The Woodlands isn’t just where I choose to live; it’s where I have a passion to contribute my time and talents in a leadership role, and work for the good of all residents.

2. What motivates you to run for The Woodlands Township Board of Directors?
I am motivated to run for The Woodlands Township Board of Directors by a deep personal commitment to public service, a strategic vision for sustainable growth, and a desire to ensure that community voices are heard and respected. My candidacy is driven by the following three key factors:
- Transparent and Inclusive Governance: I am committed to open communication, data-informed decision-making, and fiscal accountability.I will ensure that residents have meaningful opportunities to engage in local governance.
- Experience and Leadership: With decades of experience in board governance, nonprofit organizations, and higher education administration, I bring a collaborative and principled approach to policymaking.My career and community service track record show I can build coalitions, navigate complex issues, and deliver results.
- Community Connection: As a longtime resident, I am deeply invested in the character and future of The Woodlands. My campaign embodies a commitment to listening, learning, and leading with empathy, fostering a stronger community by bridging diverse perspectives.
In short, I’m running not just to hold a seat, but to serve as a steward of The Woodlands’ values and a catalyst for thoughtful progress. The Woodlands is at a crossroads. The first 50 years were wonderful and let’s make the next fifty phenomenal.

3. If elected, what would your top 3 priorities as a Township Board of Director be? How would you work to impact/shape the future of The Woodlands?
- Public Safety Stewardship and Sustainability: The Woodlands must grow responsibly by preserving its natural beauty while preparing for future challenges. Law enforcement, fire protection, infrastructure renewal, mobility planning, and emergency preparedness are central to my platform. I will advocate for coordinated response plans across agencies, transparent communication systems, and responsible investment in critical infrastructure, crime-fighting technology, and enhanced training.
- Mobility and Sustainable Growth: I am committed to improving traffic flow while preserving our community’s beauty by expanding mobility options for residents, advocating for data-driven traffic solutions, and promoting walkability, bike access, and environmental stewardship.
- Economic Vitality and Fiscal Accountability: I believe in balancing growth with responsible governance while supporting local businesses and innovation hubs, ensuring budget transparency and long-term financial health, and aligning economic development with community values.
My priorities are grounded in my belief that The Woodlands can thrive through principled leadership, strategic planning, and a shared commitment to excellence.
4. Would you like to share any other words or message to The Woodlands community?
The Woodlands is more than where we live—it’s who we are. As your neighbor, community advocate, and public servant, I believe in protecting what makes our township exceptional while preparing for the future with transparency, accountability, and integrity.
I’m running for the Township Board because I believe in responsive governance that listens, learns, and leads. Together, we can strengthen emergency preparedness, improve mobility, and support economic vitality without compromising the natural beauty and character of our hometown.
Let’s build a future that honors our values, engages every voice, and ensures The Woodlands remains a place where families thrive, businesses grow, and community spirit shines.
