Memorial Hermann reminds Community on National Injury Prevention Day: ‘We Can Help Prevent Injury’
Memorial Hermann campuses around Greater Houston are “shining a green light” on injury prevention in recognition of National Injury Prevention Day (NIPD), which was on November 18.
NIPD, led by the Injury Free Coalition for Kids, is designed to raise awareness about the burden of injury and violence – and the need for change. The day is dedicated to educating and empowering communities to make a difference through work that is focused on reducing injuries and deaths. While the occasion was originally developed for children, unintentional injuries and violence are the leading causes of death and hospitalization for people ages 1 – 44.

Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center has been lit up green at night and staff wore green to reflect their dedication to #BeInjuryFree and hosted a one-hour community and staff Injury Prevention Fair. At the fair, the following booths were set up:
- The hospital’s Trauma Services team shared education on preventing falls and welcomed attendees to put on “drunk” goggles to see how being under the influence impacts your abilities.
- The Women’s and Children’s Services teams presented education on the importance of properly installed infant and toddler car seats, the use of booster seats (Texas law requires children under 8 years old to use one unless they are taller than 4’ 9”) and safe sleeping practices for infants to help greatly reduce the risk of SIDS-related deaths.
- The Kailee Mills Foundation was on hand to share their message of driving safety through the continued use of seatbelts.
Did you know? Falls and vehicle crashes/distracted driving are the top 2 causes of trauma-related injuries in our local area!
