Montgomery County launches Memorial Day Weekend DWI Taskforce
Montgomery County Sheriff Wesley Doolittle [on May 22] announced the formation of a dedicated Memorial Day Weekend DWI Taskforce that will operate from Friday, May 23, through Sunday, May 25 to keep impaired drivers off the road. Built on strong inter-agency cooperation, the initiative unites deputies and officers from Conroe PD, Magnolia PD, Montgomery PD, Oak Ridge PD, Roman Forest PD, Splendora PD, Shenandoah PD, Patton Village PD, Woodbranch PD, Houston PD, Humble PD, the Texas Highway Patrol, multiple Montgomery County Constable’s Offices, and other regional partners.
“Impaired, distracted, or otherwise dangerous driving will not be tolerated in Montgomery County,” Sheriff Doolittle said. “We want every family to enjoy the season without heartbreak. Have fun, make memories, but please, drive sober and stay alert. We’re better together, and together we will keep our roads safe.”
The taskforce marks the county’s formal kickoff to the “100 Deadliest Days of Summer,” the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day when nationwide crash fatalities historically surge. Participating agencies have adopted one clear mantra: “Create Memories, Not Memorials.”
Motorists can expect:
- “No Refusal” enforcement. Drivers who decline a breath or blood specimen will face an immediate search-warrant process.
- Assistant District Attorneys on call 24/7 to approve warrants and streamline filing decisions.
- Judges available around the clock to review and sign blood-draw warrants without delay.
- Licensed medical personnelstanding by to perform evidentiary blood draws quickly and safely.
Sheriff Doolittle credited past joint operations for significantly reducing impaired-driving crashes during holiday weekends and highlighted the importance of shared intelligence, unified communications, and synchronized enforcement action. “This taskforce proves what we can accomplish when every badge in Montgomery County works as one, we are better together,” he said.
The Sheriff’s Office urges citizens to report suspected drunk drivers by calling 9-1-1and to use rideshares, taxis, or a sober friend when celebrating. “A safe ride costs far less than a DWI arrest, or a life,” Sheriff Doolittle added.
