Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office: Results from the Memorial Day Weekend DWI Taskforce
Sheriff Wesley Doolittle is proud to report that thanks to the unified efforts of law enforcement agencies across Montgomery County, there were no traffic-related fatalities over the 2025 Memorial Day weekend — a period historically marked by increased roadway dangers.
This success is attributed to the dedicated work of the Memorial Day Weekend DWI Taskforce, operating under the campaign theme “Create Memories, Not Memorials.” Officers and deputies from 12 different law enforcement agencies joined forces to significantly increase police visibility on roads and waterways throughout the county.
“This weekend’s outcome is a testament to what we can achieve through service, teamwork, accountability, and respect of the law and each other,” said Sheriff Doolittle. “While we can never fully quantify the tragedies that may have been prevented, the absence of fatal accidents speaks volumes about the impact of proactive policing and a community that chooses to act responsibly, with a united focus on safety. Together, we are stronger.”
Over the course of the weekend, the taskforce conducted 577 traffic stops, which resulted in:
- 349 warnings for minor infractions
- 70 DWI arrests
- 3 BWI (Boating While Intoxicated) arrests by Lake Patrol
- 132 total charges filed
The Sheriff emphasized that beyond the arrests and citations, it was the increased law enforcement presence that likely played a key role in encouraging safer behavior among motorists and boaters alike.
“Our message is simple,” said Doolittle. “Responsible choices save lives. This weekend, our community proved that prevention works.”
