Race participant dies during swim in 2026 IRONMAN Texas triathlon

The unfortunate news was announced on Saturday, April 18 at 10:45 a.m. that an athlete has died during the swim of the 2026 IRONMAN Texas triathlon. IRONMAN shared the following statement:

“We are saddened to confirm the death of a race participant during the swim portion of today’s IRONMAN Texas triathlon. We send our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the athlete and will offer them our support as they go through this very difficult time. Our gratitude goes out to the first responders for their assistance.”

Local officials shared an update on Monday, April 20 that 38-year-old Mara Flávia from Brazil was the athlete who died during the swimming portion of the event.
