Reading Is Revolutionary receives Grant from Montgomery County Community Foundation to Expand Literacy Programs
Reading Is Revolutionary is proud to announce it has received a $2,000 grant from the Montgomery County Community Foundation to support the expansion of its Packhorse Library initiative and other community literacy programs.
The funding will help Reading Is Revolutionary reach more children and families in economically challenged areas by increasing access to free books and literacy-centered experiences. A portion of the grant will support the nonprofit’s Packhorse Library program, which delivers books directly to children using horses—an eye-catching and memorable approach inspired by the historic packhorse librarians of the Great Depression.

“Books can be life-changing, but only if kids can access them,” said Teresa Kenney, founder of Reading Is Revolutionary. “This grant allows us to put books directly into children’s hands while creating joyful, unforgettable experiences that spark curiosity and a lifelong love of reading.”
In addition to expanding the Packhorse Library, the grant will support Reading Is Revolutionary’s latest initiative: a free book fair for youth aging out of foster care in Montgomery County.
The Montgomery County Community Foundation supports local nonprofits working to strengthen education, culture, and quality of life across the county. This grant reflects a shared commitment to investing in programs that create meaningful, long-term impact for children and families.
