Sheriff arrests Suspect of Ring Theft in The Woodlands after Hair DNA Match

On Friday, February 11, 2022, at about 2:15 PM, Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Theft at the Tiffany & Company jewelry store located in the Market Street shopping district in The Woodlands, Texas. Deputies learned a black male stole two rings and while processing the scene for potential evidence, fingerprints were obtained, along with a single facial hair, potentially from the suspect’s beard.

On June 21, 2022, Detectives with The Woodlands Township – Criminal Investigations Division received a match in reference to the submitted facial hair. The DNA match belonged to an individual identified as Jaythan Lawrence Gilder of Houston, who matched the suspect’s description in the Tiffany & Company theft.

Detectives also learned that Jaythan Gilder had 12 active felony warrants for his arrest through multiple jurisdictions within the State of Texas, two of which were through the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. The Woodlands Township Detectives consulted with the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force (which included members from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team) for the apprehension of Jaythan Gilder.

On July 1, 2022, Jaythan Gilder was located in the Houston, Texas area and taken into custody without incident for the open MCSO warrants, and was transported to the Montgomery County Jail.

On July 5, 2022, Detectives filed an additional charge of Felony Theft against Jaythan Gilder in reference to the Tiffany & Company theft on February 11, 2022.
