South Regional Library will close July 26, moving to Grogan’s Mill Village Center

By  |

Today, July 7, the Montgomery County Memorial Library System (MCMLS) announced that the South Regional Library in The Woodlands will be closed beginning Saturday, July 26.

MCMLS stated that the South Regional Library is moving from its facility at 2101 Lake Robbins Drive and will reopen in September 2025 at its new location at 2250 Buckthorne Place in a new, revitalized building located in the Grogan’s Mill Village Center.

The new library has been named the Kevin Brady Library after Kevin Brady, a public servant who served in Congress for 26 years, the Texas House of Representatives, and who was a leader in The Woodlands/South Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce. There he was involved in bond campaigns, including those for libraries. The renaming of the library recognizes his dedicated service at the local, state and national levels, including his leadership and support to his community in Montgomery County and The Woodlands.

After July 25, South Regional Library holds can be picked up at the George & Cynthia Woods Mitchell Library located at 8125 Ashlane Way in The Woodlands. The South Regional Library book drop will be closed beginning Monday, July 28. Library items, including ILLs, can be returned at any library branch.

South Branch Library opened in 1976 and its first building was completed in 1978. The library was destroyed by fire in 1992 and operated in a temporary space until the South Regional Library building opened in 1994. The Kevin Brady Library and Community Center will continue to serve as a central hub for the community, providing a space for learning, connection, and collaboration for years to come.

Developed in collaboration with Howard Hughes and Montgomery County Precinct 3, the new space features a state-of-the-art community center designed to support voting, local events, gatherings, and senior programs. The upgraded library will include a dedicated children’s area, a young adult’s room, multiple study and workspaces, podcast studio, 3D printing lab and a 100-person theatre-style classroom—reinforcing its role as a valuable resource for education and community engagement.
