Storytelling Empowers to hold Auditions August 15 & 16 for “This is Us” Show

By  |

Melissa Nolan and Peyton Welch have developed a new artistic program focused on overcoming the stigma of mental health through storytelling. They believe storytelling empowers both performers and audience members through community and personal connection.

Their guidelines are as follows:

  • Our Mission: Rising above mental health stigma through artistic expression and human connection.
  • Who Are We: This is Us is a live show where local people share their mental health journeys through artistic expression, such as music, dance, monologues, and poetry. It will take place in North Houston with a model to reproduce.
  • Our Purpose: Offering a safe place for people to share their mental health stories and express themselves artistically. Building a connection between cast and audience, empowering them to share their mental health journeys without shame. Creating community connections and advocates for breaking through mental health stigmas. Providing a storytelling model to easily reproduce this live event.
  • Our Goals: Breaking through barriers of mental health stigma through storytelling, empowering the cast and increasing audience connections within the community. Providing networking with local and national mental health non-profits making positive resources easily available.

Auditions are now taking place at MindSpace Wellness (The Woodlands), August 15th and 16, 2025. They include the sharing of one’s mental health journey through artistic expression (i.e., singing, dancing, poetry, monologues, etc.). Also, stories need to provide a means of working through such challenges. Participants may register online at https://storytellingempowers.com/audition

The live show will be performed at The Owen Theatre (Conroe, TX) on November 15, 2025, so save the date! To learn more about the Storytelling Empowers and This Is Us, please visit https://storytellingempowers.com

Peyton and Melisa are excited to share peoples mental health journey though  storytelling and artistic expression. The show also collaborates and promotes mental health services available within the community. As they often state, “You matter. Your story mattes. Storytelling Empowers!”
