The Woodlands Township COVID-19 Update – July 14

The Woodlands Township shared the following COVID-19 Updates on Tuesday, July 14, 2020.

County News

Montgomery County COVID-19 Case Count 
Montgomery County Public Health District, in conjunction with Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, can regrettably confirm two additional deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 44. A man in his 60s, from Spring, died in the hospital. Another man, in his 70s from Pinehurst, also died in the hospital. Both men had co-morbidities in addition to testing positive for COVID-19. We offer our condolences to both families.

The total number of COVID-19 cases increased by 359 to 3,471 cases in Montgomery County. ACTIVE cases of COVID-19 increased to 1,314. Of the 1,314 active cases who are Montgomery County residents, 44 are in the hospital. 2,113 people have fully recovered.

It’s more important than ever to take steps to slow the spread of COVID-19. Avoid groups of people. Wear a mask (if it is necessary to be in public), wash your hands or use hand sanitizer frequently, disinfect surfaces in your car and around your home, and practice social distancing.

Testing in Montgomery County
A reminder, online registration is now available for COVID-19 testing through the MCPHD/MCHD voucher program. Click on “Need to be tested?” on mchd-tx.org or mcphd-tx.org and follow the instructions. Call the COVID-19 Call Center at 936-523-5040, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., for more information.

Harris County COVID-19 Case Count
Harris County Public Health (HCPH) publishes their daily case count, combined with the City of Houston’s daily case count, here: https://tinyurl.com/tzymvk5. Cases by zip code in Harris County can be found  by clicking on areas of the map.

The Village of Creekside Park is located in two zip codes: 77375 and 77389, and these also include Magnolia, Augusta Pines/Auburn Lakes/West Rayford Road in northwest Harris County. Today, Harris County is reporting zip code 77375 has 324 confirmed positive cases with 140 active cases, and 77389 has 188 confirmed positive cases with 52 active cases.

Once tested, results from HCPH testing sites can take up to 5 days to process. Local school districts have developed reopening plans as the first day of school is scheduled for next month (August 12, 2020, for Conroe ISD, Magnolia ISD and The Woodlands Christian Academy and August 18, 2020, for Tomball ISD). See below for more information on each school district.

Re-Opening of The Woodlands
The Woodlands Town Center Trolleys recently resumed service! This includes all four trolleys operating the normal route and stops, seven days a week. Safety and sanitation protocols are in place due to COVID-19. Please wear your mask when riding to keep yourself and others safer.

Township to Host Salute to First Responders Blood Drive
The Woodlands Township will host a blood drive on Thursday, July 16, 2020, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 2801 Technology Forest Blvd., The Woodlands, Texas 77381. Please consider this opportunity to express your gratitude to our first responders who continue to serve our community and receive a FREE beach towel with your successful donation! Visit the Gulf Coast website to schedule your appointment.

The Gulf Coast Blood Center will take precautions to ensure your safety and is offering FREE COVID-19 antibody testing for all successful donors. Donors will be required to wear a mask. Participants waiting outside of their vehicle will be required to follow social distance guidelines.

State News

Governor Announces Additional Federal Resources Activated 
Governor Abbott announced that additional federal resources have been activated and are being sent to the Houston region to combat COVID-19.

The additional resources include an Urban Area Medical Task Force from the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) and a Disaster Medical Assistance Team from U.S. Health and Human Services. These resources add to a DOD Urban Area Medical Task Force that just began operating in Bexar County as well as seven federal assessment teams operating in Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, McAllen, Laredo and El Paso this past week. The Governor continues daily collaboration with Texas’ federal partners to expand resources for any regions to respond to COVID-19.

Governor Announces Additional Testing Sites
Governor Greg Abbott announced on Sunday, July 12, 2020, that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has extended federal support of Community Based Testing Sites in Dallas and Houston through July 31, 2020. Governor Abbott previously secured an extension of these sites in June. View the Governor’s complete announcement.

Make Time for Mental Health
During a stressful time like a pandemic, it is vital to stay on top of your mental health. Small daily practices can help to ensure that you stay well during this time.

One simple way to manage stress is daily physical activity. Research shows that even modest amounts of exercise can positively impact mental health, stress, anxiety, depression and overall health. Take 10 minutes (or more) each day to get in a brief walk or bike ride on the beautiful pathways of The Woodlands. Explore The Woodlands Waterway or the George Mitchell Nature Preserve. Use The Woodlands Township’s Interactive Parks and Pathways map to guide your exploration.

However you choose to engage in movement, always consult with your physician before starting a new program and remember to hydrate with water, apply sunscreen and insect repellent, practice social distancing and wear a mask if you will be in close proximity to others. Please also remember to observe pathway safety guidelines as shown below.
