The Woodlands Township Emergency Preparedness Event Returns on April 13

By  |

Residents of all ages and businesses of The Woodlands are invited to attend the annual Township Emergency Preparedness Event on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at The Woodlands Township, 2801 Technology Forest Blvd., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to learn how to prepare for hurricanes and other emergencies.

The safety and well-being of our community are of utmost importance, especially during times of emergency. With workshops and presentations from CenterPoint and The National Weather Service, as well as resources from various community organizations and volunteer groups, attendees will have the opportunity to create personalized plans to keep themselves and their loved ones safe. Join us at The Woodlands Township to take the necessary steps towards being prepared.

Presentation Schedule:

  • 11 a.m. Pierce Prater, CenterPoint
Get insights into their emergency preparedness and restoration procedures.
  • 11:30 a.m. Jeff Evans, Meteorologist, National Weather Service
Discover 2024 weather predictions, weather patterns and potential hazards to our area. Get tips on preparing for weather-related emergencies and discover available resources for monitoring local weather.
  • 12:00 p.m. Jason Washington, Battalion Chief – Emergency Preparedness, The Woodlands Fire Department
Learn how to create an emergency kit, develop a family communications plan, considerations for preparation, and access resources before, during, and after an emergency.

This event is also a great opportunity for younger residents to understand their role in preparedness and participate in engaging activities such as Hands Only CPR, making their own first aid kit, using a fire extinguisher and practice scenarios to simulate a 9-1-1 call, helping them become familiar with the types of questions they might encounter during an actual emergency. This year, a scavenger hunt has been added for our younger visitors. A prize will be given to those who complete the hunt by visiting with key participants at the event and completing tasks associated with them.

Sponsors of the Emergency Preparedness event have generously donated items for this year’s raffle. Be sure to enter the contest for a chance to win amazing prizes such as a portable generator donated by Lowe’s, Red Cross first aid kits, HEB and America’s ER gift baskets, a fire extinguisher, and smoke detectors. You do not have to be present to win after entering the raffle.
