CONROE ISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES – 2022 CANDIDATE

Tiffany Nelson is running for Conroe ISD Board of Trustees Position 1.

Tiffany Nelson

1. Share about yourself and your background.

I was raised by a single mother and attended twenty public schools. While working three jobs and receiving scholarships, I self-funded my college education and I became the first in my family to graduate, earning a Bachelor’s in Business and a Master’s in Christian Ministry. I understand the value of a quality public education and bring with me decades of boardroom and budgeting experience through the multiple boards I have served (and currently serve) and a University Academic Visiting Committee.

Additionally, I am John Maxwell certified in leadership, speaking, and coaching. am a member of The Woodlands PTO and Booster Clubs, and am employed as an executive director of a local non-profit that alleviates hunger in Montgomery County.

2. What motivates you to run for the Conroe ISD Board of Trustees?

My husband and I share six children, five of which attend CISD. I believe every child should be provided the quality education he or she deserves, one that teaches them the basics (math, science, language, and history) that provides the foundation of a bright future. I desire to do my part to make this future accessible to every child.

I’m a firm proponent of transparency, especially when it comes to fiscal responsibility. I will bring this perspective to the board as well. Our budget process should reflect conservative principles, which begins with the no-new-revenue tax rate and progresses with sound practices that reflect good stewardship of our tax dollars.

3. What are 5 things that you want voters to know about you (personal, points, views, experience, etc.)?

I’m a conservative Christian who believes all children are created in the image of God and should be loved and cherished as such.

I affirm the power of kindness and compassion and believe these things should be evident in everything we do, especially when it comes to protecting and shaping the minds of the future.

As a 10-year stage three cancer survivor, I know how to fight, and I will fight for your children with the same tenacity to make sure they receive the best education we can offer.

By the grace of God and because I had access to quality education, I pulled myself out of poverty, so I understand the benefits of learning the essentials.

God calls us to serve, and my commitment has brought me to a time such as this.

4. If elected, what would your top 3 priorities be?

  1. Empower parents. It’s imperative we make sure parents have transparency and are fully aware of what our children are learning. They need know they have a voice in the entire educational process.
  2. Put students first. Our children should have access to education that focuses on the basics and inspire them to become innovative thinkers.
  3. Encourage teachers. Our educators have been through so much in the last few years. They have persevered with professionalism and resilience. We must continually affirm their calling and keep the chains of communication open so they can receive the support they need.

5. Would you like to share any other words or message?

As I said, I am a fighter. And I will fight to protect our children and make sure they have a quality education rooted in the values our country was founded upon—values like faith and freedom, individual responsibility and hard work, compassion and kindness. It’s time to take a stand for these values and for the future of our children.
