The Woodlands Township Aquatics Division made waves at the Gulf Coast Guard Games this week, with two of its lifeguard teams earning second place overall in the highly competitive regional event held July 14 in Mont Belvieu.

The annual competition challenges lifeguards to showcase their lifesaving skills in realistic emergency scenarios. Township teams were tested on their ability to quickly recognize and respond to critical situations, from medical emergencies to water rescues.

In the first scenario, lifeguards sprang into action to assist a patron experiencing a cardiac emergency requiring CPR, earning a second-place finish. The second challenge, set in a wave pool, pushed teams to manage multiple incidents simultaneously, including a drowning victim, a dental injury and a head, neck and spinal emergency—again securing second place. In the final scenario, lifeguards faced a high-energy situation involving rule enforcement and water rescues, where they also clinched second place.

The strong performance secured The Woodlands Township a coveted spot in the Texas State Lifeguard Competition, scheduled for August 4, 2025, in College Station. This achievement marks the sixth time since 2019 that Township lifeguards have excelled at the regional level, underscoring their commitment to safety and excellence.

“This competition is a true test of skill, teamwork and readiness,” said Township Aquatics Superintendent Cynthia Roberts. “We’re proud of our lifeguards for consistently rising to the challenge and demonstrating the high standards of The Woodlands Township Aquatics program.”
