This burn is part of standard forest management efforts to restore species habitats, reduce undergrowth, and enhance community safety.

It will take place between I-45 and SH 242, south of FM 1488 within the forest boundaries.

Objectives:

  • Reduce vegetative fuel to prevent wildfires
  • Improve safety through better access and visibility
  • Enhance wildlife habitat by increasing sunlight to the forest floor
  • Facilitate inter-departmental training for emergency response

Texas A&M Forest Service will notify surrounding city and fire officials, residents, and forest users through email and posted signage in nearby right-of-ways. Firefighters and equipment will be on-site as a precaution.

For safety reasons, certain areas of the forest will be closed to the public during the burn including Middle Lake Trail and the Middle Lake picnic and fishing area.

Texas A&M Forest Service burn managers implement strategies to disperse smoke safely and minimize public nuisance and health impacts by following a specific, preapproved burn plan detailing fuel types, ignition techniques, and expected smoke production. Weather conditions are continuously monitored to ensure safety parameters are met and ventilation can carry smoke away from sensitive areas.
