The Habitat MCTX staff, volunteers, friends and family came together to support Manuel & Esther, Sade, and Jamie – families whose hard work and determination have led them to this meaningful moment. This event honored the perseverance, strength, and hope of these families as they begin a new chapter in a place to call home. It’s a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish together – building strong foundations through community and compassion.

During the ceremony, the Can-Do Crew – Women Build Too group, The John Cooper School, Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, and The Woodlands Methodist Church were thanked and recognized for their partnership, support, and volunteering to help build the three houses. This marked the 25th house build for The John Cooper School and the 22nd house (and 16th in the Cedar Creek neighborhood) for The Woodlands Methodist Church for Habitat for Humanity MCTX.

The new homeowners and their families also had the opportunity to share a few words and thanked God, Habitat MCTX, and the partners and volunteers for making the dream of homeownership possible. Each homeowner was presented with a toolkit, Family Bible engraved with their family name, and a plunger plus a gift card to the ReStore shop. After the ceremony, all split into three groups for individual home ribbon cuttings that included a tour, prayer and blessing for each home.

Meet the New Homeowners:

  • Sade and her two teenagers are moving into their new three-bedroom Habitat House that will offer much-needed space and privacy after living with family and friends. As a Certified Medical Assistance working at a local Urgent Care, Sad balances work on the front lines of healthcare with her responsibilities at home. For Sade, this new home represents much more than just a house – it’s a fresh start, a sanctuary where her family can grow and thrive, and a long-awaited dream come true.
  • Jamie and her two daughters are ready to move into a home with a backyard where they can play freely and safely. Jamie found out about Habitat from co-workers at Walmart where she has worked for 8 years. She’s also volunteered at Habitat, the ReStore Re-sale shop, and with the Children’s Miracle Network. Jamie’s journey is a testament to her resilience, hard work, and the power of community. She’s excited to put down her roots down in Conroe and buy her first home.
  • Manuel and Esther have constantly moved and rented across the country due to Manuel’s job as a construction operator and are ready to put down permanent roots in Conroe. Their new two-bedroom home not only will provide more space for the couple, but also for their son and daughter-in-law who are all currently sharing a one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment. Their story is one of hope, family, and the belief that no matter the challenges, the dream of homeownership is within reach.

Habitat MCTX empowers communities and fosters strength, stability, self-reliance, and shelter through safe and affordable housing. Since our establishment in 1989, we have created partnerships with dedicated volunteers, community members, and aspiring homeowners, working collaboratively to construct affordable homes that contribute to developing secure and thriving communities.
