The Woodlands Township Aquatics earns ‘Special Event of the Year’ Award
The Woodlands Township Aquatics Department recently earned “Special Event of the Year” from the Texas Public Pool Council for their charming program, Morning with the Mermaid. Featuring a “live” mermaid, the event invited children into a whimsical adventure with underwater games and seaside crafts.
Morning with the Mermaid took place in August 2025 and was a sold-out event at Cranebrook Pool. The program was designed to meet the community’s need for creative, family-friendly activities that combine recreation with imagination.

Parents valued the safe, structured setting where their children could stay active and engaged. The addition of photos and a souvenir provided families with a lasting memory, enhancing the overall experience. By blending fun, creativity and recreation, Morning with the Mermaid successfully addressed community interests while highlighting the aquatics facility as a welcoming place for connection, activity and lasting memories.
“This event was imaginative and great fun for the kids,” said Township Parks and Recreation Assistant Director Pamela Woods. “Who wouldn’t want to meet a mermaid at the pool?!”
The Township plans to host this event again in summer 2026. Pool season will be here before we know it!
