The program reflects the School’s commitment to broadening and deepening the student experience. By providing meaningful opportunities to participate in a wide variety of sports, students are able to develop their interests and skills and compete at a high level.

“Seeing lacrosse come to life at Cooper has been incredibly rewarding,” said Dr. Stephen Popp, Head of The John Cooper School. “This program reflects our continued dedication to enhancing the student experience through opportunities that support growth in athletics, teamwork, and character. At Cooper we are committed to building athletes who are ‘mentally strong, physically fit, and emotionally intelligent‘.”

Interest in lacrosse continues to grow rapidly throughout Texas, with already strong participation in leagues such as the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) and the Houston Junior Prep Conference (HJPC). The John Cooper School’s lacrosse program, as part of SPC and HJPC, is designed to not only compete now, but build a foundation for future success while creating an engaging environment for new and experienced players alike.

Director of Athletics John Hoye emphasized the excitement surrounding the launch. “We have already seen tremendous enthusiasm from our students and families. Middle School Boys’ and Girls’ Lacrosse bring new energy to our athletic department and opens additional pathways for skill development and potential collegiate opportunities in the future.”

The program currently includes skill development, team training, and competitive play, along with continued opportunities for younger students to learn the sport through camps, clinics, and physical education integration. Early participation has already demonstrated strong community support and momentum.
