Pet of the Month: Shane
Hello Woodlands in partnership with Operation Pets Alive highlights a “Pet of the Month” that features a local dog or cat available for foster and/or adoption in Montgomery County, Texas. Operation Pets Alive is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization striving to elevate Montgomery County to a No-Kill community through innovative programs that raise community awareness, reduce the number of dogs and cats that enter our shelters, and increase the number of dogs and cats that leave our shelters alive.
For our Pet of the Month, we are excited to introduce you to Shane!

Shane’s Story

At just shy of 4 years old, Shane is known to Operation Pets Alive (OPA) volunteers as an “old soul”. Sweet Shane came to us in May 2021, after being found roaming the streets with his sister Shasta. His calm demeanor and good health helped him earn a spot on a transport to a shelter up north, but after not being the right fit with one family and too many months of being overlooked, he was returned home to Texas.
Sadly, black dogs are often overlooked and Shane has been back with OPA for several months without any adoption interest. It also doesn’t help that OPA is short on fosters and Shane has been hanging out in boarding without a foster to advocate for him and take him to adoption events. His foster he had last summer said she would have adopted him if she had room, he was so sweet and chill.

He is cautious, but once it’s in his comfort zone, he’s ready to go. He walks well on a leash after he is sure where he is going is safe and loves to go on car rides. Shane would love to find a family to love him and maybe a human or fur sibling to run around with. Shane is approximately 70 pounds, microchipped and neutered.
If you would be interested in fostering Shane, please reach out to Operation Pets Alive at foster@operationpetsalive.org. You can apply to meet or adopt Shane on Operation Pets Alive’s website (no obligation to adopt), with his name and ID D210282 when filling out the form: https://operationpetsalive.org/programs/adopt/
