Arts in the Park kicks off fall season with Shakespeare in the Park
THE WOODLANDS, TX – Residents and visitors are invited to enjoy a live Shakespeare theatre performance of The Tempest at Northshore Park on Saturday, September 19, 2020. The event, performed by Points North Theatre Company and The Woodlands Symphony Brass, will begin with a pre-show concert at 5:00 p.m. and theater performance beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Welcome to a bold new take on The Tempest, William Shakespeare’s comedy adventure, in a performance set in the 1960s (exactly one week before the fated sailing of the SS Minnow). On a mysterious desert island, the magician Prospero – the deposed former ruler of Milan – uses the sprite Ariel to cause a massive storm resulting in a shipwreck in a grand scheme to get his throne back from his usurping brother and to find true love for his daughter Miranda. With drunken sailors searching for survivors, a witch’s evil son planning mutiny, and even a visit from some Roman goddesses, The Tempest provides fun for the entire family, featuring a pre-show concert and music during the performance by The Woodlands Symphony Brass.
Coolers, picnic baskets, blankets and lawn chairs are permitted. Please, no tents and tables. Glass is prohibited. Those planning to attend the performance should practice social distancing, refrain from gathering in large groups and continue following all guidelines established by the CDC when in public spaces and around others outside of your household.
