Blood Drive honors Longtime Church Chairperson

By  |

It can be difficult to realize the importance of something so simple as donating blood. It can be easy to wonder if a pint of blood can really make a difference in the lives of those who live in the community. Kyle Russell is someone who understands the importance of each pint of blood that is donated. In fact, under his leadership as the chairperson of The Woodlands United Methodist Church blood drive for 24 years, the donation center secured over 13,670 units of blood that impacted the lives of 41,000 people in the community.

The Woodlands UMC is hosting a blood drive in honor of Kyle Russell’s 24 years of service. He served as chairperson for the church blood drive from 1995 – 2019. Over the years, Kyle has worked tirelessly with the Director of Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, the Mission Team at the church and John Hull, Pastor of Missions Ministry, to organize successful donation drives. Through coordinating a team of church volunteers, he helped The Woodlands UMC host, on average, four blood drives a year. The team of volunteers are responsible for sign-ups and inputting information on the computer in addition to helping donors feel comfortable when they arrive to donate blood.

Kyle understands the importance of keeping the blood banks stocked, especially during the pandemic, and is very passionate about encouraging others to get involved in blood donation. His goal was to make each blood drive more successful than the last. The Woodlands UMC and Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center plan to honor him for his efforts at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 23 when their next drive begins.
