City Place Marriott’s SwitcHouse Plates & Pours appoints Executive Chef
In the midst of its 5th anniversary year, the AAA Four Diamond Houston City Place Marriott is upping the ante at its popular, all-day restaurant, SwitcHouse Plates & Pours. Local culinary veteran Javier Romero has been appointed to the role of executive chef, bringing more than a decade of experience to his new position.
Prior to joining SwitcHouse and the Houston City Place Marriott team, he held the executive chef role at Houston’s acclaimed Hotel ZaZa Memorial City. Before that, he was sous chef at Embassy Suites by Hilton Houston Energy Corridor. A Bayou City native, Romero received his bachelor’s degree in culinary science from the Art Institute of Houston.

“SwitcHouse Plates & Pours’ premier location within the urban core of City Place presents a unique opportunity for us to serve a wide variety of audiences, from international business travelers visiting companies like ExxonMobil and Hewlett Packard Enterprise to locals drawn to the community’s businesses, greenspace and entertainment offerings,” said Romero. “I look forward to building on a dining and bar experience that celebrates modern Texas flavors.”
Inspired by the area’s railway heritage, SwitcHouse Plates & Pours offers menus with a focus on iron, oak and smoke elements for casually elegant plates that perfectly pair with a curated creative cocktail and craft beer selection. Offerings showcase locally-sourced meat smoked in-house, shareable plates and hearty main dishes.

Located off the hotel’s main lobby and featuring a lively patio overlooking City Place Park and the community’s activated central Plaza, the casually cool restaurant is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner from 6 am to 10 pm. Brunch is available weekends from 10 am to 2pm, while happy hour is offered weekdays from 4-7 pm. For more information, visit https://cityplaceswitchouse.com/.
