Conroe ISD earns Fourth Texas Transparency Star
Conroe ISD was awarded the Texas Transparency Star for Open Government & Compliance by Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts Glenn Hegar, becoming the first school district to earn all four stars for which it is eligible.
“Earning our fourth transparency star is a tremendous accomplishment and another demonstration of our commitment to upholding the highest standards of transparency for our community,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Curtis Null said. “I would like to thank our CFO, Karen Garza, and our entire Finance Department for their efforts in this achievement.”
Open and transparent governance has its roots in a desire to be governed by a representative and accountable body of lawmakers. Texas’ Open Meetings Act was designed with clear and concise guidelines dedicated to articulating the rights of Texans to redress grievances with their governing officials. Demonstrated compliance with transparency reporting mandates represents good faith efforts by administrations regarding holding elected and appointed officials accountable to their constituency.
“We are so proud of our continued recognition by the Texas Comptroller for our dedication to transparency,” Garza said. “We are committed to ensuring that all stakeholders – students, parents, teachers, and community members – have clear and accessible information about the District’s operations and finances. We want all stakeholders to be informed and involved in the educational journey of our students.”
The District was previously awarded and has maintained stars for Traditional Finances, Contracts & Procurement, and Debt Obligations. Public school districts are ineligible for the stars for Economic Development and Public Pensions.
