EfTA Internship Program offers Career Exploration
Education for Tomorrow Alliance (EfTA) is partnering with 74 companies in Montgomery County and beyond to give 175 rising high school seniors from 14 different high schools the chance to develop career readiness. The Student Internship Program (SIP) offers each student 80 hours of work experience centered around a student’s career interests. SIP, which runs through June and July, imparts lessons that can shape students’ professional pursuits. EfTA celebrated interns and their hosts at the Student Internship Program Breakfast Reception on June 18, 2024, at the Walter P. Jett Teacher Training Center.
The reception program included student speakers Evan White interning at CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County and Jessica Wang interning at LTY Engineers, as well as program alumnae Olivia Gallegos, a 2019 participant and Scarlett Schulz a 2022 participant. Education for Tomorrow Alliance Program Director Corinne Coulter offered career mentors recognition as well, offering the Life Saver Award to Sarah McClure from the City of Oak Ridge North and outstanding mentor awards to Emily Calver from Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital and David Weygandt from Weygandt Law.
Corinne Coulter commented, “This year, the program increased in the number of matched students by 28% with a record number of applicants and placements. This growth is only possible through the generosity of the employers willing to host and mentor students. The support by local businesses demonstrates how the community is investing in its future.”
Education for Tomorrow Alliance started offering internships in scientific fields more than 30 years ago. Since then not only has SIP continued to work with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics organizations, it has also expanded to business, law, education, and human services and more. Yesenia, a 2023 participant that interned with Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center shared, “Having met professionals that do what I’ve always wanted to do gave me the clarity to follow my heart. I now know what I want to do with my future.”
