1. Share your background. What originally brought you to The Woodlands?
The Woodlands is the best place in America to live! We all strongly connect to this community – where nature, family values, and opportunities converge beautifully. Growing up in Seattle, Washington, moving to The Woodlands felt like discovering a hidden gem. In this true oasis, urban life seamlessly merges with peacefulness, exceptional public safety, and the best family living. Choosing The Woodlands as the place to build my life and raise my family was an easy decision. High-quality schools, beautiful nature, vibrant attractions, well-maintained golf courses, and countless opportunities for leisure and enjoyment drew me in. With my parents also living here, my connection to The Woodlands runs deep, making it not just a home but the place where I’m dedicated to ensuring it continually improves – a place all generations will proudly call home.
Over the past decade, I’ve built a successful career as a business executive in the construction and IT industries, managing multi-million dollar budgets and leading strategic initiatives. This experience has honed my ability to make decisions that benefit the greater good, and it has given me a deep understanding of the importance of responsible leadership. My background as an associate business professor at a community college further inspired my commitment to education and community engagement, shaping my desire to contribute to The Woodlands in a meaningful way. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Washington and hold an MBA from Texas A&M. My wife is a dedicated doctor, and we are hopeful she will soon work in one of The Woodlands’ top medical facilities. Our two children enjoy all of The Woodlands’ opportunities and are the center of our world. They motivate me daily to make The Woodlands the best it can be – for them and all families.
2. Why do you enjoy living (and working, if applicable) in The Woodlands?
Living in The Woodlands feels like being in a close-knit, picture-perfect town. The quality of life is unparalleled: excellent schools, a strong sense of public safety, and neighbors who genuinely care for each other. I find immense joy in attending events at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, the Farmers’ Markets, community meets at Market Street, and various events promoted in our local newspapers. The beauty of The Woodlands, with its striking lakes, well-maintained parks, and hidden pathways, creates a peaceful environment perfect for raising a family.
Whether taking my kids to play at Bear Branch Park, practicing Taekwondo at Master Hong’s, or enjoying a quiet walk through the wooded trails, The Woodlands offers everything one could wish for and should have. In this world of speed and chaos, having this serenity and peace provided by the township is a blessing. I’m committed to ensuring our community remains safe, connected, and proud.
3. How have you served and/or how do you currently serve and contribute to our community?
While this is my first step into formal public service, my commitment to The Woodlands is strong. In my corporate career, I’ve always prioritized making a positive impact, whether through managing budgets that create local jobs, supporting young American minds through numerous scholarships, organizing IT competitions, or leading initiatives that raise funds for community development. My associate professor experience has also centered around service – helping students succeed and encouraging them to give back to their communities. These roles have prepared me to take on the challenges of the Township Board, where I can apply my skills to benefit all residents of The Woodlands.
Beyond my professional career, I love participating in local charities and organizations, and I’m always eager to help my neighbors whenever given the chance. Whether it’s lending a hand with community events, assisting with neighborhood projects, volunteering at school events, or simply being there when someone needs support, being a good neighbor is something that we should all strive for. These experiences have reinforced my commitment to serving this community and motivated me to seek a role where I can make an even greater impact. However, the world is changing, and The Woodlands needs an individual who is forward-thinking, tech-savvy, and full of energy to help transition into the future.
4. What motivates you to run for The Woodlands Township Board of Directors?
Two years ago, Niche.com ranked The Woodlands as the number one place to live in the U.S., but sadly, it does not anymore. It was a recognition that filled our community with pride and showcased what makes this township truly unique. The world is a dynamic place; rankings change based on algorithms, but we should strive to be number 1 in all aspects of quality of life, including:
- Public Safety and Crime: With crime rates being a concern, particularly related to thefts and drug issues, public safety should remain a priority for residents and local government. AI advancements in security are needed to protect our community. We also need to ensure that law enforcement, fire, and medical services are fully staffed, continuously funded, and supported.
- Development and Growth: As The Woodlands continues to attract new residents and businesses, managing growth while preserving the community’s unique character envisioned by George Mitchell’s vision is critical. We need more discussions about commercial space redevelopment, especially in aging village centers, without compromising the community’s green spaces and quality of life.
- Fiscal Responsibility with Innovation: We must decrease property taxes while ensuring new ways to balance fiscal responsibility. The focus should be on smart investments in the community’s future, such as improving infrastructure and technology to ensure The Woodlands remains a top place to live.
- Education and Schools: Our schools are top in the state. However, declining passage rates in many grades on standard tests are becoming an issue. We need to take a stronger stance on supporting local schools and educational initiatives. We need policies that improve school funding and safety.
- Traffic and Mobility: Nobody likes to be stuck in traffic! Something I experience more often in the Woodlands, especially during rush hour. As The Woodlands grows, traffic congestion and mobility issues become more significant. We need plans for improving infrastructure and public transportation to address these concerns.
I’m committed to focusing on the core values that make The Woodlands exceptional – our strong Township community spirit, unwavering commitment to family, and preserving our natural beauty.
The Township directors have done an excellent job, and their contributions have greatly benefited our community. However, it’s time to bring in fresh perspectives and new energy to address the evolving needs of The Woodlands and the technological advancements of our time. Recognizing the importance of staying ahead in a rapidly changing world, I’m focused on enhancing our technological infrastructure, financial strategies, and information systems to better serve our residents. My background equips me to significantly contribute to these areas, ensuring that our community keeps pace with advancements and leads the way while maintaining strong fiscal responsibility. I’m ready to tackle the hard but necessary work with long hours and forward-thinking leadership. Our residents deserve a new representative who understands the aspirations of The Woodlands and is prepared to guide us confidently into the future with a commitment to innovation, George Mitchell’s vision, and sound financial management.
5. What are 3 things that you want voters to know about you (personal, views, experience, etc.)?
- Family Man: My family is my top priority. As a father, I’m committed to making The Woodlands a place where all families can thrive, with safety, education, and quality of life at the forefront.
- Forward-Looking Vision: I believe in planning for the future while preserving what makes The Woodlands special. Embracing innovation and modern thinking is key to addressing tomorrow’s challenges and positioning The Woodlands as a leader in adapting to change.
- Community Advocate: With over a decade of experience in corporate management and community engagement, I’m deeply committed to public safety and enhancing the quality of life for all residents, from our youngest to our most senior.
6. If elected, what would your top 3 priorities as a Township Board of Director be? How would you work to impact/shape the future of The Woodlands?
- Public Safety Enhancement: FUND THE POLICE! Ensuring that our law enforcement and emergency services are well-funded, well-trained, and well-equipped is essential to maintaining our community’s highest standards of safety. I will advocate for more funds for police and neighborhood services and work to implement advanced technologies and training programs to keep our community safe while also being fiscally responsible. For example, recent incidents of vehicle break-ins and thefts in areas like the parking lots at The Woodlands Mall and local grocery stores have underscored the need for stronger crime prevention efforts. I’m committed to proactive initiatives that protect all residents.
- Sustainable Growth and Infrastructure: The recent power outages and weak phone service signals have highlighted the need for a more resilient infrastructure. I will advocate for solutions to prevent future disruptions and ensure our utilities can handle population growth. I also support capital improvement projects that enhance our community and generate income for the township. However, we must involve our residents in these decisions. By conducting thorough studies and surveys, we can gather input on what our community truly needs, wants, and values. This approach ensures that any capital investment we pursue – whether it’s expanding recreational facilities (performing arts center, convention center, sports centers, etc.), revitalizing our village centers by developing mixed-use spaces, transportation planning, or any other initiatives – reflects the desires of our residents and serves the best interests of The Woodlands. By prioritizing community input, we can make informed decisions that bolster our economy, create new jobs, and enhance the quality of life for everyone.
- Smart Budgeting and Tech-Driven Growth to Make The Woodlands #1 Again: To reclaim and keep The Woodlands as the number one place to live in America, it’s essential to embrace smart budgeting and technology-driven solutions. For instance, by implementing AI transportation systems and prioritizing infrastructure improvements, we can reduce congestion, improve safety for drivers and cyclists, and enhance the overall quality of life. My commitment is to achieve these goals through efficient use of resources, supporting favorable sales and hotel taxes, and not raising property taxes, ensuring that residents of The Woodlands continue to lead the nation as the best place to live, work, and thrive.
7. Would you like to share any other words or message to The Woodlands community?
The Woodlands is not just where we live; it’s where we create our futures and push the boundaries of what our community can achieve. The last two years’ results may have taken us away from being number one, but with the right direction, there’s no reason we can’t reclaim that top spot. As your candidate for Position 3 on the Township Board, I’m committed to bringing fresh ideas and a dynamic approach to ensure our community remains strong, safe, and prosperous. Together, we can embrace the innovations and opportunities that are ahead, guiding The Woodlands back to its rightful place as the best place to live in America. Let’s move forward with George Mitchell’s vision and ensure The Woodlands is the best place for our families today and future generations.
Let’s get to work!
