Hurricane Harvey

Governor Abbott adds Montgomery County to state disaster declaration

By  |
CONROE, TX – August 26, 2017 – County Judge Craig Doyal praised Governor Greg Abbott Saturday for adding 20 Texas counties, including Montgomery County, to his state disaster declaration. A copy is available here.
“I appreciate Governor Abbott’s leadership during this crisis. The governor’s actions mean we are poised to act and speed any recovery funds we may be due should the need arise,” Judge Doyal said.
Although flooding has closed some roadways, there has not yet been any widespread inundation of homes, Judge Doyal said.
However, he urged residents to remain vigilant. Due to the potential for extensive flooding and damages to homes in Montgomery County from Hurricane Harvey, County Judge Craig Doyal made a local disaster declaration Friday and submitted a request for the same at the state level to Gov. Greg Abbott. A copy is available here.
Darren Hess, Montgomery County Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, said given the forecast of continued heavy rain, the risks of flooding remain high. Several roads remain closed due to flooding.
“We urge residents to exercise extreme caution,” Hess said, particularly if they travel the roadways.
The declaration is designed to ensure the county has put itself in a position to speed any recovery aid should the county experience significant damage from Hurricane Harvey.
“I urge residents to please monitor storm conditions, and watch for updates that will be provide through our Office of Emergency Management at https://mctxoem.org/,” Judge Doyal said.
