Grand Central Park Brews & BBQ Benefits Horse & Human Sanctuary

By  |

CONROE, TX – A day devoted to beer and Texas barbecue will help grow a therapy horse program for veterans and first responders during Brews & BBQ at Grand Central Park noon – 5:00 p.m. Saturday, April 13.

Henry’s Home Horse & Human Sanctuary, located within the Conroe community, is the beneficiary of the event, which is taking place at 715 Camp Strake Road.

Free activities include a performance by the Joe Bailey Band, mechanical bull riding, pony rides, giant yard pong, Skee-Ball and inflatables. Guests can watch a private cook-off starring Montgomery County First Responders. Admission to the event is free. Tickets for a catered barbecue lunch cost $10 and can be pre-purchased online at www.grandcentralparktx.com or paid for with cash at the door. Alcohol also will be available for purchase.

“It’s going to be a fun day for everyone,” said Grand Central Park Marketing Director Shannon League. “But it’s also going to fund a wonderful organization that does so much for the area.”

Henry’s Home was founded in 2014 by Executive Director Donna Stedman as both a sanctuary for donated and rescued horses and a place where people can heal.

The programs include the horse sanctuary and Herdmate, a volunteer program for adults over the age of 18 who want to be involved with daily horse care and riding for a small monthly fee.

A third program, Horses & Heroes provides Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association equine psychotherapy for veterans and their family members at no cost to them. The money raised by Brews & BBQ will help fund a fourth therapeutic program.

“Our fourth program is going to be a horsemanship training and riding program for our local veterans and first responders and their families,” Stedman said. “They put their lives on the line every day for us, so it’s the least we can do to give back to them.”

Grand Central Park has housed Henry’s Home since 2017 after the community’s developer, Johnson Development, heard that the organization was looking for a new home.

“We sure hope the community will come out to meet and support first responders and their families,” Stedman said. “You will also be providing them — and all our beloved rescued animals — a means of healing their souls, by way of the horse.”
