By  |

CONROE, TX – Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County (Habitat MCTX) is now recognized as an official Veterans Build Organization through Habitat for Humanity International. This designation allows Habitat MCTX funding and partnership opportunities to help local veterans and their families through affordable housing and home repairs in our county.

Every military family deserves a decent and affordable place to live and Habitat MCTX is ready to help. Habitat MCTX is currently identifying and partnering with local Veteran organizations to assess community needs.

According to National Low-Income Housing Coalition, nearly 4 million of our veterans pay at least 30 percent of their income toward rent or mortgage, while more than 1.5 million pay at least 50 percent. Thirty five percent of senior veterans are estimated to have a disability requiring home modifications, health, and other supportive services as they age.

As an official Veterans Build Organization there are five key components to the program:

  • Build and repair Safe Affordable Homes
  • Recruit Veterans to Work at Habitat
  • Volunteer Opportunities for Veterans
  • Education for Veterans in Financial Literacy/Education for Volunteers and Staff on Military Culture
  • Honor Veterans through Special Events

Vicki Johnson, Executive Director states, “We are honored to receive the designation of being a Habitat for Humanity Veterans Build affiliate. Through this initiative, Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, Texas can provide volunteer, homeownership, and repair opportunities to U.S. veterans, military service members and their families. Most importantly, we can help local veterans, by lifting the housing cost burdens and provide home modifications, health, and other supportive services to disabled and aging veterans.”

In partnership with Momentum Title, the first Veteran Build was completed in late summer in Habitat’s Cedar Creek subdivision located in Conroe. The Linn family will soon close on and move into their new home.

“It is always heartwarming when someone recognizes your military service,” said Chris Linn, veteran from the Navy. “It is as humbling as it is appreciated. I encourage each of us to continually give gratitude to our military and first responders.

Momentum Title is passionate about the veteran community and joined forces with Montgomery County Habitat in 2018 to build homes for veterans in need of housing. Over the last two years, the event has raised funds to build a home for a hard-working veteran family. Habitat MCTX is the charity of choice for Momentum Title and is planning their third annual Habitat for Heroes Veterans Build fundraising event November 9, 2020, from 6:00pm-9:00pm at Zanti Cucina Italiana, 10000 Research Forest Drive, in Magnolia.
