Insperity Invitational: First Round Pairings, Opening Ceremony and John Daly Long Drive Competition set for Friday

Celebrating 20 Years of Golf Greats! The 20th annual Insperity Invitational presented by UnitedHealthcare is an official PGA Tour Champions event that will be contested Friday, April 28 to Sunday, April 30 at The Woodlands Country Club Tournament Course.

Opening Ceremony to 20th Insperity Invitational set for 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 28

The Woodlands resident and 10-time winner on the PGA TOUR, John Mahaffey, will hit a ceremonial tee shot on the opening hold Friday to officially kick off the 20th anniversary of the Insperity Invitational presented by UnitedHealthcare.

Mahaffey initiated casual conversations in the winter of 2003 with tournament officials and Insperity executives which turned into a tradition of excellence in professional golf spanning two decades that has united businesses, inspired local golf fans and made a positive impact on charities in southern Texas.

Mahaffey willl be joined by former Insperity Invitational champions,  longstanding tournament volunteers and the Treble Makers from Powell Elementary who will sing the star-spangled banner.

John Daly Goes Head to Head in Long Drive Competition against 12 Houston Area Residents

For the sixth time, the Insperity Invitational qualified 12 competitors to try and out drive John Daly after the first round of play on Friday, April 28.  The event is a fan favorite and gives spectators the chance to bear witness to some of the longest hitters in the Houston area.  Whoever out drives John Daly and beats their fellow competitors will win a trip for four, hosted by Fuzzy Zoeller, to play golf at Naples National in the winter. The trip includes airfare, lodging, golf.

The event will take place on Friday, April 28 immediately after the first round of the Insperity Invitational presented by UnitedHealthcare. Estimated start time will be 5:15 p.m.

10th Annual Folds of Honor Greats of Golf Competition

The distinguished group includes 13 World Golf Hall of Famers who have combined for 234 PGA TOUR victories, 156 LPGA TOUR victories, 77 major championship titles, and 158 PGA TOUR Champions wins. Six of these players have won six or more major championships: Nicklaus (18); Annika (10); Player (9); Inkster (7); and both Bradley and Trevino (6).

The players will be grouped in foursomes and play a scramble format. Each group will feature one of the greatest women’s golfers ever to play the game.

Annika to Host Girls Golf Clinic on Sunday

Annika Sorenstam will provide young girls the opportunity to learn from one of the best golfers to ever play the game on Sunday, April 30.

This unique event asked girls (ages 6-14) to record a video or write an ‘open letter’ to Annika telling her why you love golf and why other girls should learn how to play. The authors of the 50 most compelling letters or videos have been invited to attend the ‘Share My Passion’ Girls Golf Clinic at no cost held during the final round of the Insperity Invitational on Sunday, April 30 at The Woodlands Country Club Tournament Course.

The day will begin with lunch as the last groups begin their final round. Following the last tee time, the girls will make their way to the driving range to learn from Annika and other local teaching professionals. 

Insperity Invitational Radar:

• The 20th annual Insperity Invitational presented by UnitedHealthcare will be contested Friday, April 28 to Sunday, April 30.
• The 10th edition of the Folds of Honor Greats of Golf featuring Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Lee Trevino, Annika Sorenstam and 12 of their legendary friends will take place on Saturday, April 29 at approximately 2 p.m off the 10th tee.
• The Insperity Invitational benefits local Houston charities. A “PINK OUT” will take place on Saturday, April 29 in support of breast cancer awareness. All spectators are encouraged to show their support and wear pink on Saturday.

Ticket and Parking Information:
The Insperity Invitational presented by UnitedHealthcare offers FREE grounds only admission tickets courtesy of Insperity, Woodforest National Bank, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Spectators are encouraged to “Fill the Hill” around the 18th green. The grounds ticket also includes free parking and shuttle service. General public parking will be as follows:  WEDNESDAY – FRIDAY – The Church Project 602 Pruitt Road in The Woodlands, and SATURDAY & SUNDAY – the Green, Yellow and Orange lots on Timberloch between Six Pines Drive and Grogan’s Mill in The Woodlands.
