INTERVIEW

Hello Woodlands interviewed JLTW President Kathryne Pruitt who shared, “This is our 19th Annual Holiday Market. Last year we went virtual so this year we are very excited to have it return. This is our primary fundraiser for Junior League of The Woodlands and it means so much to us because it supports our nine community programs that covers women’s initiatives, children and family – so everything from supporting human trafficking victims to our backpack program that feeds children over the weekend. What you will see throughout our market this year that is unique is we are really honing in on those mission areas so you’ll see them on our t-shirts and signage, so you’ll learn a lot about the Junior League as you shop this weekend.”

The last eighteen Junior League Holiday Markets have been held at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott, and again this year for the 19th annual event. “We have over 120 vendors,” saidKathryne Pruitt. “Some of them are local favorites, but we also have a lot of new vendors here – so there’s a little bit of everything. We have food items, we have women’s and children’s clothing, we even have some manly gifts – there’s something for everybody. We have vendors both in the foyer – outside and inside. We will have Santa on Saturday from 10 to 5 and it is the REAL Santa. Mrs. Claus will be there to do activities with the kids too.” The Holiday Market is a family-friendly event and strollers are welcome Friday and Saturday after 2 p.m. and all day Sunday.

“The Junior League [of The Woodlands] is over 500 strong. The only thing is we have is an age minimum of 22 so we really cover five generations of women. We come to volunteer. We cover everything from doctors, lawyers, moms, everything in between – and we are trained volunteers. One of the unique things about Junior League is not only do we give back to the community, but we provide leadership opportunities for the women in the league and that sometimes translates into their professional lives and vice versa.”

“We [Junior League] are in The Woodlands. We are located off of Sawdust, but we cover North Harris and South Montgomery County. So we go all the way west to Tomball, Klein, we go to Montgomery, Magnolia, Conroe, Spring, Humble, Kingwood, Atascocitia, and Aldine. So we really cover the whole north side.”

By attending the Junior League Holiday Market, “You are supporting our local community,” sharedKathryne Pruitt. “We put all of this money back into the local community through our nine branded programs, but also by supporting community partners throughout our service area which includes grants that we give them. At the end of the year, we have our community assistance fund. We also do emergency relief if they have something catastrophic happen. Obviously, COVID impacted a lot of people so we provide emergency funds during the year as well. So, it supports that initiative as well as our own programs and then within those programs we have different community partners tied to those where they receive resources as well throughout the year.”

“Come and see us! We are so excited to be back. It’s a really great experience and it’s only $15 at the door.”
