The new facility immediately opened following the ribbon cutting with afternoon programming and a storytime with Kevin Brady, a reading of the book “House Mouse, Senate Mouse” by Peter Barnes.
The library includes several new features, including a special children’s area fully separated from the rest of the library with an enclosed space for reading sessions and play, an enclosed young adult room, workrooms, and a 100-person, theater-style classroom. Creative artwork and beautiful wall coverings decorate the space throughout to create an inviting atmosphere for all ages.
The community center offers a modern conference room, boardroom, and several meeting rooms; a multifunctional meeting hall/ballroom; and enhanced facilities to continue serving residents of all ages. It also includes a larger meeting hall used for daily senior meals, voting, community activities, and meetings. Many rooms are dedicated to community leaders, such as the Cathy Brady Ballroom, and named in honor of Senator Tommy Williams, Dr. Ed Robb, Nelda and Jim Blair, Julie Ambler, Judge Edie Connelly, and Bruce Cunningham.
Both the library and the community center have upgraded technological amenities throughout.
The regular operating hours of the library will be Monday-Thursday, 9am-8pm, and Friday and Saturday, 9am-5pm.
There will be also a large community celebration on September 20th from 10am to 2pm. The celebration, sponsored by Howard Hughes, will include a bounce house, food trucks, and additional activities.
