Memorial Hermann celebrates National Advanced Practice Provider Week
Did you know? The fourth week of September (September 22 – 26, 2025) is National Advanced Practice Provider Week. Depending on the specialty, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) have at least 6 and up to 8 years of education, hold board certifications and are licensed by the state. Like other health care providers, APPs complete continuing education and must renew their certification regularly. APPs include Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (ex. Certified Nurse Practitioner, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesiologist) and Physician Assistants (PA-C).
At Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center, you may encounter an APP in the hospital, at a Memorial Hermann Medical Group clinic site for primary care or specialty care like that for cardiology or gastroenterology. You may also receive care by an APP, versus a physician, in care sites like one of the Memorial Hermann – GoHealth Urgent Care clinics in The Woodlands and surrounding areas.

APPs are a valuable part of the care team as they collaborate closely with physicians by sharing patient assessment, diagnosing and treatment responsibilities – allowing for greater access to health care. APPs are available when physicians are already booked up at a practice for example, and some patients choose to see an APP exclusively. A physician supervises an APP’s medical responsibilities under their license, and they work together.
