Montgomery County First Responders participate in Complex Coordinated Training Exercise at The Pavilion

On Thursday, October 26, 2023, Montgomery County First Responders and community partners, in collaboration with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), participated in a real-time, full-scale emergency exercise at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.

The exercise simulated a complex and coordinated emergency scenario, allowing emergency response agencies, law enforcement, and other relevant stakeholders to test their coordination, communication, and response strategies. Participating Montgomery County First Responders included the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Texas DPS, MCHD, The Woodlands Fire Department, and many other partner agencies across multiple counties and the state. The complex coordinated training exercise was closely monitored by evaluators who provided valuable feedback and insights to enhance emergency response capabilities. Volunteers participated and played a variety of roles as victims; 105 total patients and 72 were transported to local major hospitals as part of the exercise. Lessons learned from this exercise will be used to refine emergency plans, identify training needs, and strengthen coordination efforts among all participating entities.

Following the exercise, a press conference was held October 27, 2023 at The Pavilion where representatives from numerous state and local participating agencies provided additional insights, information, and statistics from the exercise. Speakers included Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough, Sheriff Rand Henderson, Texas DPS, Major Terry Truett, FBI Acting Special Agent in Charge David Martinez, and Montgomery County Health District Chief James Campbell.
