Native Plant Group to Celebrate First Anniversary with Celebration and Garden Dedication

SPRING, TX – Pines and Prairies chapter of the Native Plant Society will celebrate its first anniversary Saturday, January 29, at the Spring Creek Greenway Nature Center.

The 1 to 3 pm event will include short talks and plant walks, focusing on native plants and invasive species of our tri-county area. Additionally, officials will dedicate a Commemorative Pollinator Garden.

The event is open to the public.

The Pines and Prairies organization includes Montgomery, Grimes, and Walker counties. It is a chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas.

The Spring Creek Greenway Nature Center’s role is to protect the lands entrusted to the public. The Center offers visitors the chance to discover the wonders of nature by exploring the world around them. The facility provides programs for all ages.

The location of the Center is at 1300 Grand Parkway Frontage Road, Spring, Texas 77386 (1200 Riley Fuzzel Rd).

“We are pleased to host the Native Plant Society of Texas and its Pines and Prairies chapter,” said Commissioner James Noack, Montgomery County Precinct 3. “The Spring Creek Greenway Nature Center is just part of the Spring Creek Greenway, a 12,000-acre conservation project that stretches from FM 2978 to U.S. Highway 59. Precinct 3, in partnership with the Bayou Land Conservancy and other groups. It actively works to preserve this land for future generations,” he added.

“The Native Plant Society of Texas mission promotes research, conservation, and utilization of native plants and habitats. We do this through education, outreach, and example,” said Gail McConnell, president of the Pines and Prairies chapter.

Formed in December 2020, the Pines and Prairies Chapter was approved by the Native Plant Society of Texas, State Board on January 23, 2021. The Chapter was formed to serve the residents of Montgomery County, Texas, and nearby areas. For more information, visit www.npsot.org/pinesandprairies.
