New Danville Spring Thing Event: Fun Times, Great People Supporting Special Needs Adults

By  |

New Danville’s Spring Thing event brings to the area a special songwriter-storyteller and honors a local family for their generosity to the organization, a rural nonprofit in Willis that supports special needs adults with day programs and residential opportunities.

On April 28, the annual luncheon gala will be held at The Woodlands Resort. The keynote speaker will be Rory Feek, a “farmer and filmmaker, author and artist, songwriter and storyteller.” A Grammy-award winner, as part of Joey+Rory, he has written several hit songs, like “Some Beach,” by Blake Shelton.  He is also the father of Indiana, an 8-year old with special needs. Their story is moving and inspirational. Joey was Rory’s wife who died of cancer not long after Indiana was born. His memoir, This Life I Live, debuted on top of the New York Times bestseller list. His blog shares his heart and story of unwavering faith and hope in the face of tragedy and triumph; it has millions of followers.

The fundraising event will also honor the Lynne and Steve Charbonneau family of Charbonneau Industries, a modern master distributor of pipeline products and services in Houston. The family and their company have been supporters of New Danville for several years, including launching the “Pallets to Partners Program” whereby New Danville’s Wranglers (clients) assemble pallets for the company. With well over 7,000 pallets completed, the program serves as an inspiration to further development of New Danville’s Job Readiness and Support Program. The family donated a building constructed on New Danville’s site to allow for continued expansion of the program; the Charbonneau Family Building was dedicated in November 2021.
